Accelerated Bachelor's to MS in Biological Forensics

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs by Degree

The Biological Forensic program offers an accelerated bachelor's to MS program for current undergraduate students. Students can begin their application for the MS program as early as spring of their junior year through October of their senior year. The accelerated program is a great option for Loyola undergraduates to complete both an undergraduate and master's degree in a reduced number of semesters and total tuition costs.

Once accepted into the accelerated program, graduate courses totaling up to 9 credits (3 courses maximum) may be taken that apply towards both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Accelerated students complete FO 530 and WR 626 while still enrolled as an undergraduate student. With permission from the Graduate Program Director, accelerated students may be permitted to enroll in a third course. Students may not enroll in more than 7 graduate credits per term. Students enrolled in the Biological Forensics program must complete FO 656/657 and the capstone course as graduate students and not while undergraduates in the accelerated program.

A grade of B or higher must be achieved in a graduate-level course for the course to transfer to the graduate transcript and a grade of C or higher must be attained to receive course credit for the undergraduate transcript. Grades below a B in a graduate course completed as an undergraduate student result in dismissal from the accelerated program. If a student has previously taken any of the undergraduate versions of the graduate program's required courses, those courses must be repeated at the graduate level unless permission is granted by the Graduate Program Director.

Students interested in applying to the bachelor's to MS program may do so by going to the Office of Graduate Admission and completing the online application. The admission requirements are a minimum overall GPA of 3.25, two letters of recommendation (both of which must be from Loyola faculty members) and an essay. A student is expected to have successfully completed a college-level introductory science course (with a grade of C or better) prior to acceptance in the program. Official transcripts are automatically requested, and the $60 application fee is waived for all current students.
